last update:

I personally just wanted to give a big shout out to the a-hole, Mr. Christmas Tire Slasher, who decided to puncture all four of the tires on my 4Runner. THANK YOU SO MUCH! It was so much fun trying to find a shop that would patch them. I almost dropped my truck off the jack stands while remounting the tires. Once again, Mr. Christmas Tire Slasher, you rule! Were it not for you, I would have no idea how to spend the $1K that I must now fork out for new tires.

I can’t stand people who put trash in the bed of other peoples’ trucks. It’s happened to me twice this week. Once in the middle of the night and once at the post office this morning. It underscores how lazy we as a society have become. In both cases, trash cans were within 30 feet of the bed of my truck, yet you decided to put your shit in it anyways.

yup…been busy

It’s been a month to the day since I’ve written anything. I’ve been a bit busy as of late with holidays, visiting Dave in the hospital, working late, and just life in general. Laura and I got a Christmas tree this year for the first time. I’ve been telling her that fake Christmas trees don’t really seem like Christmas to me, so she basically said “prove it” and, to make a long story short, we now have a 6′ tall douglass fir in our living/dining room.

the daily grind

I need a vacation….my sanity depends on it. Last week, I couldn’t wait for the weekend. Maybe it was because I had to work each night at midnight for about an hour. I’m not having fun anymore. I’ve been very short and filled with attitude lately. I know, go figure, me full of attitude. About the only thing that I have taken joy in lately is getting behind a keyboard and punching out code.

status update

It’s been a while since I’ve written anything. I’ve been working some long hours lately. We finally launched Pirates last week. It was a good night. The energy on launch night was great. We had some beers, the champagne flowed, it was a good night. Then I went back to my desk and worked for another few hours until 2am. I got an ergonomic keyboard at work the other day. I figure that I type a lot and I type pretty hard and that both of those things mean that I will probably end up with carpal tunnel in some form or another, so I thought this would be a good first step toward prevention.

I was at work until 1AM last night. I went home and passed out. When I woke up this morning, it was one of those mornings where your eyelids take every ounce determination that you have to get them to open. I stumbled into the shower. It was then that I decided to stop at Starbucks and get some coffee on the way to work. I order the same thing the same way every time.

what’s new?

Not a whole lot. I’m still busy at work. The pace is quickening and my todo list is growing. For every thing I scratch off, I replace it with two more things. It will all be worth it…I have a feeling that Pirates is going to be an overwhelming success…or at least I really hope so. After all the time and energy that the team has poured into it, it would be a shame if it didn’t pan out.

Laura has been saying for years that she can’t stand driving in nor-cal because of the drivers. I never really believed there to be much of a difference until this last weekend. This last weekend, we drove from LA to Sacramento to help James move. We hopped in the X-Runner and hit the highway around 3:45PM on a Friday night. We hit some traffic getting out of LA, but by the time we hit the grapevine, I had the cruise control set at 85 and we were making good time.

Just spent the weekend with my little brother and sister. It was a lot of fun. On Friday we went to the Disney studio lot and checked out a few sites there. Later that night, we went and saw the Dodgers play the AZ Diamondbacks….unfortunately the Dodgers lost, but it was a very good game and had some great pitching. Saturday we went to Santa Monica. We walked the pier, played some games, then went back to our car and got our stuff and had a picnic lunch on the beach.

I’ve toyed around with the idea of having a DVR. It would be cool to have one. Everyone that I know that has one says that they love it and can’t live without it. I’m sure Laura would like it too. I’m not a huge TV fan, but I like a good technical challenge, so I’m thinking about building a mythTV box. What is mythTV? It’s an open source project that allows you to build your own personal DVR.
